Sovol SV08 MAX: the giant 500 x 500 x 500 mm CoreXY

Sovol 3D is probably one of my favourite 3D-printing brands, and after an SV08 that had already won people over, the manufacturer is back with an XXL version: the Sovol SV08 MAX, released on 3 June 2025. The principle is simple: take the SV08 CoreXY formula and enlarge it to impressive proportions. On paper, it is clearly tempting.

Large-format 3D printing has long been reserved for expensive machines or kits built by the user. With the SV08 MAX, Sovol offers a giant print volume while keeping a pre-assembled, accessible machine. Let’s see what this new model has to offer.

A truly enormous print volume

The SV08 MAX’s first argument is clearly its 500 x 500 x 500 mm print volume (500 x 500 x 450 mm with the enclosure kit). This is plainly a different category: where most desktop printers top out around 220 or 350 mm, this machine opens the door to very large parts in a single print. Cosplay, furniture, life-size props and large prototypes immediately come to mind. Its claimed aluminium-alloy frame should provide the rigidity needed for such an imposing format.

Announced technical specifications

CoreXY motion system: like its smaller sibling, the SV08 MAX uses a CoreXY architecture, reducing moving mass and favouring speed and precision. Sovol claims up to 700 mm/s with 40,000 mm/s² acceleration.

Klipper firmware: the machine runs Klipper with familiar advanced features (Input Shaping, Pressure Advance and PID Tuning) to limit vibrations and improve consistency, especially useful on such a large bed.

Linear rails on every axis: Sovol claims linear rails on XYZ axes, intended to provide smooth movements and precision across the full area.

Eddy-current levelling: automatic nozzle levelling uses an eddy-current sensor, intended to simplify calibration of a bed this large.

High-flow, high-temperature nozzle: with a claimed 300 °C nozzle, bed up to 100 °C and flow reaching 50 mm³/s, the machine targets both speed and a range of materials.

Price and options

The Sovol SV08 MAX is announced at around $1,099 as a launch price, with some sources mentioning $1,299 to $1,499 depending on region and current promotions. For a 500 mm build volume with this specification sheet, the positioning remains aggressive against large-format competition. The enclosure is offered as an option and will be important for reliably printing some technical materials such as ABS, at the cost of slightly reduced height.

Software

As on the SV08, the machine uses OrcaSlicer, a complete open-source slicer that optimises toolpaths and gives good control over print settings. It is a coherent choice appreciated by the community.

In conclusion, is this Sovol SV08 MAX interesting?

On paper, the Sovol SV08 MAX ticks many boxes: an enormous print volume, CoreXY speed, Klipper, linear rails everywhere and automatic levelling, all at a contained price for this category. If you dream of printing life-size parts without cutting and gluing, it is clearly appealing.

All of this still needs confirming in use. Such a large bed always raises questions about adhesion, flatness and warm-up time that a specification sheet cannot settle. I hope to get my hands on one for a real test. In the meantime, on paper, Sovol has made a machine that is very tempting.
