The Creality Falcon A1 Pro is a fully enclosed desktop laser engraver built around a 20W blue diode, CoreXY movement and camera-assisted autofocus. Its more unusual feature is support for a swappable 2W infrared laser module, giving owners a route from wood and dark acrylic to detailed marking on metals and selected plastics. Independent reviews now show that the A1 Pro offers a polished sub-$1,000 experience, although the accessories and smoke-management setup require careful selection.

The original Falcon A1 focused on approachable 10W engraving. The Pro model doubles the diode power, adds a touchscreen and broadens the platform with the infrared option. It is aimed at makers and small businesses that want something more integrated than an open aluminium-extrusion frame but do not want to invest in a larger CO2 machine.

The A1 Pro’s Class 1 enclosure contains the beam during normal operation and stops the laser when the lid is opened. Price and accessory choices

Tom’s Hardware tested a $949 Basic Pack containing the A1 Pro, 20W head and honeycomb riser. The official European Falcon store listed the machine at €943, against a displayed regular price of €1,179, when this article was verified. Regional bundles change regularly, and product pages sometimes promote dual-laser capability even when the 2W infrared head is not included. Check the bundle contents before ordering.

The IR module, rotary attachment and purifier can raise the total substantially. A honeycomb platform is particularly useful for cutting because it improves airflow beneath the material and reduces scorching. The infrared head only makes sense if metal or plastic marking is a real requirement; it does not turn the machine into a high-power industrial fibre laser.

Software and tested performance

Falcon Design Space provides material presets, camera preview and basic image-editing tools on desktop and mobile devices. The A1 Pro is also compatible with LightBurn and LaserGRBL, giving experienced users alternatives to Creality’s own workflow. Tom’s Hardware found the autofocus reliable throughout testing and praised the camera for arranging complex jobs, although initial camera calibration took around ten minutes.

Both Tom’s Hardware and TechRadar reported strong engraving and cutting quality. The 20W diode produced consistent marks on uneven slate and good results on wood, leather, acrylic and glass with the correct preparation. The machine is not as fast or precise as production-focused specialist hardware, but its enclosure and automation make it much easier to integrate into a small workshop.

The weakest accessory in the Tom’s Hardware test was Creality’s small desktop smoke purifier. Its airflow was overwhelmed when cutting plywood, leaving smoke inside the enclosure. If outdoor venting is possible, it is preferable. Otherwise, choose a filtration system sized for sustained cutting rather than relying on the smallest available unit.

Laser safety and ventilation

An enclosed Class 1 design is reassuring, but laser cutting still combines heat, flammable material and potentially hazardous fumes. Keep the lid sensor, flame detection and emergency stop operational, and never leave a running cut unattended. Exhaust smoke outdoors or through a correctly specified filtration system.

Do not cut PVC or chlorinated materials because they can release toxic and corrosive gases. Unknown plastics and treated composite boards should also be identified before processing. Commercial users need to follow the product-safety, ventilation and workplace requirements applicable in their country.

Is the Creality Falcon A1 Pro worth considering?

The Falcon A1 Pro is a convincing step up from a basic open-frame engraver. Its solid enclosure, reliable autofocus, camera workflow and 20W cutting performance have all held up in independent testing. The optional infrared module adds useful flexibility for detailed marking rather than being a replacement for the blue diode.

There are compromises. The protruding touchscreen needs care, suitable smoke extraction adds cost, and the full accessory ecosystem can move the price well beyond the appealing base figure. For a small business or maker who values a polished, compact and expandable platform, however, the Falcon A1 Pro is a credible choice below the cost of most enclosed CO2 systems.
