Qidi Q2: 270 mm, 370 °C and multicolor at $499

Qidi Tech launched the Q2 on 20 August 2025 with a clear ambition: offer a first enclosed printer without sacrificing technical materials. Its 270 x 270 x 256 mm volume, 370 °C nozzle, 65 °C heated chamber and QIDI Box compatibility form an impressive specification sheet for $499, also listed at €499 in Europe. I have not tested it, but this Q2 deserves a look beyond its beginner label.

More compact than the Q1 Pro, but roomier

Qidi claims a footprint 20% smaller than the Q1 Pro while increasing usable volume by around 30%. The printer measures 402 x 438 x 494 mm. Its CoreXY structure combines a reinforced metal chassis, linear rails, a finer 1.5GT belt, two independent Z motors and 10 mm shafts, aiming to retain the rigidity of more professional models in a family machine.

Nozzle-measured calibration

Offset-free levelling: a force sensor above the nozzle uses the nozzle itself as the measuring point, avoiding the geometric offset of a probe mounted beside the hotend.

Maximum speed of 600 mm/s: the official technical sheet also claims 20,000 mm/s² acceleration. Useful speed will depend on profiles, flow and desired finish.

370 °C nozzle: the hardened dual-gear Direct Drive extruder accepts a 0.4 mm bimetal nozzle, with 0.2, 0.6 and 0.8 mm sizes available.

65 °C heated chamber: second-generation heating targets ABS, ASA, nylon, PC and composites. A prefilter, H12 HEPA and activated-carbon system reduces some particles and odours but does not replace suitable extraction for emissive materials.

QIDI Box compatibility: the filament cutter is integrated and the printer can use the four-spool system, with claimed clog and tangle detection.

Price and options

The 20 August official announcement sets the Q2 price at $499. The Qidi European store lists it at €499, while the Q2 Combo with QIDI Box reaches €649. Launch offers and lead times can vary by warehouse.

QIDI Studio and ecosystem

The Q2 works with QIDI Studio and also accepts OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer profiles. Qidi claims 32 GB eMMC storage, network monitoring and file sending. A model platform and mobile app are also planned, although their maturity remains to be checked at launch. The printer retains local-network access, reassuring for users who do not want cloud dependence. The camera can record timelapses and Qidi claims assisted detection, but real incident detection must be separated from marketing claims.

So, is the Qidi Q2 a good first printer?

On paper, the Q2 looks less like a simplified printer than a small technical machine made more accessible. Its 270 mm volume, heated chamber and multicolor option cover a broad range of projects. At €499 it becomes particularly attractive against enclosed models requiring a separate colour module. In return, the software ecosystem and QIDI Box are still young, with usual launch risks. Would you choose this versatility or a less ambitious but more proven platform?
