xTool made its name by democratising laser engraving and cutting, and this time moves up a level with MetalFab, a genuine 4-in-1 metal-fabrication station. The idea is ambitious: bring together in one machine a 1,200 W fibre laser welder, CNC cutting, laser cleaning and metal engraving, where several expensive industrial pieces of equipment were previously needed. Presented in 2025 and powered by industrial Coherent laser chips, it targets workshops, small businesses and advanced makers working with metal. The range starts at around $4,699 for the welder version and rises to $13,999 and more for the complete configuration, US prices to convert.
It is exactly the type of product that makes a metal-working maker’s head spin: welding, cutting, cleaning and engraving from one workstation, without investing in an industrial machine costing tens of thousands of euros. I have not tested it; this is an overview of what xTool highlights, without claiming to have handled it. Let’s see what this condensed metal workshop promises.

A complete metal workshop in one machine
First, MetalFab is not a simple engraver but a modular system offered according to need. You can start with the welder alone, 800 W or 1,200 W, then add the CNC cutting bed to turn it into a complete fabrication centre. The welding gun is claimed to be ultra-light, around 550 g, with a rapid five-second change, for less tiring work than a traditional heavy TIG torch.
The heart of the system relies on industrial-quality fibre-laser chips claimed to last more than 10,000 hours. xTool stresses the promise of making a skill accessible that has until now been reserved for large workshops: welding without extensive experience, precise cutting and metal engraving, all controlled from a touchscreen and in-house software.

CNC cutting up to 10 mm steel: paired with the CNC bed, the 1,200 W MetalFab makes clean cuts up to 10 mm carbon steel, 5 mm stainless, 4 mm aluminium and 3 mm brass, at a claimed speed of 400 mm/s. VibeFreeCut targets burr-free edges with deviation below 0.1 mm.
Intelligent dual camera: a 16 MP panoramic camera maps the entire bed for precise positioning and Smart Nesting, which claims material use up to 98.7%. A second close-up camera handles micron-scale fine adjustments.
Integrated cleaning and engraving: beyond welding and cutting, the machine strips metal, laser cleaning up to 45 mm manually and automated in CNC, and engraves stainless steel, galvanised steel, titanium and coated metals in vector, vector fill or bitmap modes.
Touchscreen and 108+ presets: an 8-inch touchscreen carries more than 108 material presets applied in one click. XCS software adds a Material EasySet library of more than 100 parameters for 30+ materials with automatic path optimisation.

Price and options
xTool offers MetalFab in several configurations: the range starts around $4,699 for the 800 W welder version, rises for the 1,200 W welder, and reaches $13,999 and beyond for the complete set with CNC cutting bed, which requires a welder. These are US prices to convert; availability and euro pricing vary by market and promotion. At this price, it is clearly a workshop or small-business investment, but the argument is coherent: xTool compares its offer with industrial machines priced from $30,000 to $60,000 while promising the same uses for a fraction of the budget. Prices move with offers, so comparison is worthwhile before buying.
Safety and proper use
A fibre-laser machine of this power is not a toy, and that deserves to be clear. A 1,200 W laser able to cut 10 mm steel requires suitable protection: safety glasses matching the fibre wavelength, ventilation and extraction of metal fumes, and a clear floor and work environment. Cutting and cleaning metal release particles and vapours that must be properly extracted. For installation, the 1,200 W model requires at least a 21 A circuit: connection by a qualified electrician is recommended, or necessary depending on the region. In France, professional or intensive use of this equipment is subject to workplace-safety rules. Software and ecosystem
MetalFab relies on xTool XCS, the brand’s software, intended to make metalworking accessible: selecting a material from a library, applying settings in one click, automatic lead-in lines and path optimisation. The brand also highlights a local service network in the United States and Europe, with training and demonstrations, which makes sense for equipment at this scale: buyers are not purchasing only a machine but support in learning to use it. This still rests on manufacturer claims to be confirmed in real use.





So, is this xTool MetalFab interesting?
On paper, MetalFab ticks boxes that clearly appeal to people working with metal: welding eight times faster than TIG, cutting up to 10 mm steel, cleaning and engraving from one station, all guided by dual cameras, a touchscreen and software that simplifies the work. For a workshop or small business wanting to bring metal production in-house without exploding its machine budget, the 4-in-1 approach is genuinely attractive.
It still needs to prove actual ease of use for a welding beginner, real bead and cut quality over time, and consumable costs, nozzles, lenses and gas, all things a specification sheet alone cannot settle. But the ambition is clear, and xTool remains true to its signature: making accessible what was not. I hope to have the opportunity to test it one day.
