The xTool P3 is an enclosed 80W CO2 laser cutter built for large craft studios and small production businesses. It provides a 36 x 18-inch work area, up to 1,200 mm/s motion, a 220 mm AutoLift base and camera-assisted automation in a machine that weighs roughly 105 kg.
This is a different class of tool from a desktop diode engraver. It can cut clear acrylic and thicker wood, but it also demands a large budget, robust extraction, cooling and a suitable permanent workspace.

Large work area and 80W CO2 tube
The standard bed measures approximately 915 x 458 mm, more than twice the working area of many desktop systems. xTool claims one-pass cuts through 20 mm poplar plywood and 25 mm acrylic under its own test conditions. Actual depth depends on material quality, focus, airflow and the edge finish required.
An integrated inverter water chiller controls the CO2 tube, which xTool rates for about 10,000 operating hours. A separate optional 5W 1064 nm infrared module is intended for marking selected metals and plastics rather than replacing the CO2 source.
Cameras, LiDAR and automatic setup
The P3 combines a 16 MP overhead camera, a closer detail camera and side cameras. Its LiDAR ranging system helps detect material height and set focus, while AutoLift provides up to 220 mm of vertical clearance and supports loads up to 16 kg.
The optional RA3 rotary uses 3D mapping for cylindrical work. A smart conveyor can feed longer stock. Those accessories make the system more productive, but each adds cost and setup complexity.

Safety classification needs careful reading
In its closed standard configuration, the P3 is specified as a Class 1 laser product and includes interlocks, infrared flame detection, monitoring cameras and integrated CO2 fire suppression. This classification does not eliminate smoke, fire or toxic-fume risks. Every cutting job still needs supervision and effective extraction.
There is an important exception: xTool’s safety documentation says that installing the conveyor feeder changes the system to Class 4 because the enclosure is opened around passing material. That configuration requires a controlled laser area, appropriate personal protective equipment and workplace procedures. Never cut PVC or unknown chlorinated plastics.
Price and independent testing
French reseller pricing was around €5,824 for a standalone package, while US pricing and promotions have moved below the original displayed $6,999 level. A rotary, conveyor, filtration and infrared head can push the total much higher.
Tom’s Hardware found the P3 extremely capable and fast, with its large bed and automation delivering genuine productivity. The same scale also makes installation and ventilation significant commitments. This is closer to workshop equipment than a casual desktop accessory.



Who should consider the P3?
The P3 is designed for a business or experienced maker that will use its large area and automation often enough to justify the cost. Clear acrylic, thick wood and batch production are exactly where an 80W CO2 platform makes sense.
For occasional engraving, it is oversized and expensive. For a properly equipped workshop, the P3 offers unusually integrated cameras, focus, lifting and fire controls, provided the operator treats its ventilation and laser-safety requirements as part of the purchase.
